  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. Cut strawberries into small pieces and mix with sugar. Cover and set aside.
  3. In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
  4. Cut in 3/4 cup softened butter, then add 1 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream and mix until dough forms.
  5. Kneed dough on lightly floured countertop for about a minute, then roll out to 1/3” sheet.
  6. Use an oval cookie cutter to cut into “chicks.”
  7. Melt remaining butter and lightly brush two baking sheets.
  8. Place dough on top, then brush tops of dough with remaining melted butter.
  9. Bake for 7-10 minutes, until golden brown.
  10. While shortcakes cook, beat remaining cream until thick, then add vanilla and beat until incorporated.
  11. Once shortcakes are finished baking, allow to cool for several minutes before cutting in half and layering with strawberries and whipped cream.
  12. Use black and orange candies to give your “chicks” eyes and a mouth.
