Preparation

  1. Whisk together sugar, cocoa and salt.
  2. Whisk in half & half and stir over low heat until smooth and sugar has dissolved.
  3. Stir in milk and continue to heat until mixture just comes to a boil.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

ingredients

Possible add ins:

Double Chocolate- - Stir in 1/4 cup semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips until melted. Top with whipped cream and mini chocolate chips.

Peppermint- - Add 1 tsp peppermint extract with the vanilla extract. Top with whipped cream and peppermint candies

Peanut Butter- - Whisk in 2 Tbsp smooth peanut butter. Top with whipped cream and salted peanuts.

Mocha- - Add 2 tsp instant espresso powder with the sugar, cocoa and salt. Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

Mexican Hot Chocolate- - Add 1 tsp cinnamon and 1/8 tsp cayenne powder. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Lowfat- - Omit half & half and use 4 cups skim milk, 1/3 cup sugar and 1 1/2 tsp vanilla.
