High standards make for high quality.
Our farmers don’t treat their cows with growth hormones. Recombinant bovine somatotropin, also called rBST, is an artificial growth hormone used to boost milk production in cows. But not ours.
*No significant difference has been shown between milk from rBST-treated & non rBST-treated cows.
The use of antibiotics is strictly prohibited for organic cows from birth. The first and best defense against illness is prevention. But when a calf or cow does become ill, we rely on natural and alternative methods as our preferred treatment. If a sick animal can’t be restored to full health with organic-approved treatments, we may administer antibiotics or other prescribed synthetic medicines to return a calf or cow to good health. However, when antibiotics or other prohibited materials are administered, the cow’s milk is no longer used in our products. We always consider the well-being of our animals first and never allow an animal to suffer.
Horizon cows graze on wholesome, certified organic pastures at least 120 days every year. When they can’t be out on the pasture, they are fed only organic, vegetarian feed made without the use of genetically modified grains or the use of toxic, persistent pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilizers.
A pasture is more than just a pretty field of grass. The health of a pasture, from the soil to the grass, impacts a cow’s health and ultimately the quality of the cow’s milk. That’s why we don’t use toxic, persistent herbicides, pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilizers that can pollute the soil—or the water and air.
Horizon milk is an excellent source of calcium, which helps support strong bones.
The protein in dairy milk is a complete protein—providing all the essential amino acids.
Milk delivers a good source of vitamin D.
Milk is an excellent source of vitamins B2, also called riboflavin, and B12.
